Kelly Snelling

Kelly Snelling painted the underside of a beetle's wing with iridescent pearl paint. then she collaged on my grandmother's eyes and the word remember. she painted these over with a few coats of gel medium. lastly, she added a small bell and a jump ring. take flight!

Oh Kelly,
This charm is the coolest ever!! The green is amazing in person and when I look into your grandmother's eyes, I see her looking at roses.
Thank you so much.

these lovely charms are so magical and very special...yet when we've traveled (to Africa and So. America), we've always been cautioned not to buy anything featuring beetle parts. As with black coral, this is due to the ecological concerns. Just something to consider...perhaps these were beetles farmed for this purpose???...

totally captivating! I used to have a key ring with one of those beetles inside the clear medium. I am confused though how can those wings be tough enough to withstand the rigours on a bracelet?? Have you treated them somehow?

Fantastic! I've never seen dried beetle wings, I thought they were painted mussel shells.
